Ten: Molik first Aussie tennis player to win singles medal

ALICIA MOLIK has beaten world number three ANASTASIA MYSKINA to become the first Australian
tennis player to win a singles medal at an Olympic Games.

The unseeded MOLIK was in tears after upsetting Russia's reigning French Open champion
6-3 6-4 in the women's bronze medal play-off.

The 23-year-old has rated the performance as the highlight of her career.

The South Australian's triumph crowned the most successful month of her career, during
which she also snared her second title in Stockholm and racked up 10 wins from 11 matches.

The world number 23's only defeat came last night against world number two AMELIE MAURESMO
in the Olympic semi-finals.

MOLIK will break into the world's top 20 for the first time on Monday.
