Fed: Universities call for the abolishment of TPVs

Researchers at two Australian universities have called for the federal government to
scrap Temporary Protection Visas for asylum seekers.

The researchers from Monash University in Victoria and Charles Sturt University in
New South Wales have studied the impact the visa system has on providers of refugee settlement
services in NSW.

Monash researcher Dr SHARON PICKERING says the temporary visa regime should be abolished
as it's a punitive policy affecting a vulnerable and traumatised population.

The researchers interviewed 44 people from 16 organisations who deliver services in
areas such as health, education and employment.
